The Stags had taken the lead 10 minutes earlier through Japanese defender Seiji Kaneko but the Eagles crawled their way back into the game thanks to a penalty.
Hafiz Rahim converted the spotkick and it was left to the Stags to look for the winner again as they went looking for their goal source this season, Duric.
With the 2-1 win against the Eagles, the Stags have climbed above Home United thanks to a better goal difference.
But Etoile FC still hold all the aces as they have a game in hand and a 1-point lead against their two main rivals.
