Experience over youth as Warriors triumph

In the end, the Warriors had too much experience as they came out 3-1 winner against the White Swans at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

But it could have been a different story if the White Swans had taken 1 of the many chances they had in the game to kill off the Warriors after taking an early lead.

Keisuke Matsui had scored for Albirex Niigata (S) from a corner after Shahril Jantan make a mistake to come out for the ball and failed to claim it.

After that, it was the White Swans all the way until John Wilkinson scored what must be the goal of the week as taking a pass from Indra, the Singapore international dribbled his way to the edge of the box and with his left foot, he fired a shot that curl into the top corner.

The youngsters were shocked as there appeared to be little danger as they had surrounded Wilkinson but the 31-year-old show why he has been the mainstay in the Warriors and Lions side.

From that point onward, the Warriors started to play better but Albirex Niigata (S) continued to make the better chances and yet with their first clear cut chance, the Warriors went ahead.

The White Swans were down to 10 men with Fumiya Kobayashi send off as he make a harsh challenge on Ahmad Latiff when he was on a yellow.

Taking advantage, the Warriors push men upfront and in 1 of the raid, Ivan Jerkovic scored his first Warriors goal as he was left all alone on the edge of the box to fire his shot past the keeper.

The Warriors then went on to make the score looked ridiculous for the White Swans, considering how well the Japanese did, as Ruzaini Zainal also scored his first Warriors goal after playing a one-two with Wilkinson to find himself one-on-one with keeper.

The Warriors are now in third spot but the case for rebuilding for next season have not gone away as their experience also mean they are in need of new blood to drive them onward.

2 games played in the previous night saw both home teams triumphed as Beijing Gouan (S) defeated Balestier Khalsa 1-0 while the Young Lions also defeated Gombak United by the same scoreline of 1-0.

The Chinese goal came from Teng Bin while the Cubs goal was scored by Safuwan Baharudin.
