Lions thrash Laos 4-0

Singapore thrashed Laos 4-0 in a friendly game at the Jurong West Stadium.

It boast morale if nothing else as Laos is just too weak to tell us our form at this moment.

At the same time, it will tell Philippines coach his hopes of making the Suzuki Cup semi-final by hoping to get a result against the Lions is a tad too ambitious at this point

The Lions are going to the semi-final.

Not the same Etoile

It seem S-league champions Etoile FC is not playing in the BTC Cup in Vietnam, it is another Etoile from France.

It name is Etoiles de Paris

And thanks goodness for that as that team is horrible as it lost all it matches.

Hardly a poor version of the S-league champions let alone a version of it.

Transfer - November

 2010 transfers - Preseason / Mid-season

One more year

It is a terrible secret if it was a secret in the first place but S-league record goalscorer Aleksandar Duric has announced he will be playing in the S-league again next year.

This will be Duirc 13th S-league season and likely to be his last one as he will be 41 come the end of 2011.

That is why the Stags forward is hoping to end it in a bang and bring trophies to the club come the end of the season.

Tigers released their Brazilians

In a major shock, the Tigers have put their Brazilians - Rivaldo Costa and Vitor Borges - on the release list meaning the pair will not be retained by the club.

The Brazilian pair have been a revelation at the Toa Poyah club and it was believed that is good enough for them to be retained.

After all, Rivaldo have contributed 11 goals in 29 appearances and the last time the Toa Poyah club had somebody who reached a double figure, it was back in 2006 and that person was Kengne Ludovick.

I seriously doubt the club can find Kengne Ludovick playing for them again so Rivaldo is more than a decent replacement if not equally good replacement.

As for Vitor Borges, he may not be as prolific but his pace is menace upfront and the Tigers do not have anybody like him at the moment.

So either the club have somebody in mind that is better or the Toa Poyah club could be set for a disappointing 2011 season.

Ex-Singapore U23 international Goh Swee Swee has also been released by the Tigers.

Indra Warriors career set to hit a brickwall?

After just one season with 8-time champions SAFFC, Indra Sahdan could be looking for a new club.

The S-league website have speculated that the 32-year-old is facing a lengthy spell fighting a knee injury he sustained in July.

With the Warriors looking to win back the S-league championship, they may not be willing to wait for Indra to fully recover and even if they do, he may not be at full fitness for a while.

El-Masri could leave Home

Home United has admitted Canadian winger Sherif El-Masri may be leaving the club.

The 20-year-old believed he has done well enough to be promoted to the S-league as he is the only Asia-based player to have received a call-up to his country’s Olympic training squad and has bagged 13 goals in the Prime League, making him the club’s second-highest goalscorer behind Sufian Anuar.

Not so, according to Protectors general manager S. Mahalingam, who said that there are no plans to promote him into the senior setup as head coach Lee believed the Canadian is not the finished article and due to the fact foreigners slot are limited, he is not good enough.

“After one year here, Sherif wants to play more in the S-League, not the Prime League,” S. Mahalingam revealed.

“But looking at the foreign players we have and the ones we want to get, his chances for our S.League team are limited. Comparing him to our higher-level players, like the three Koreans, our head coach thinks he’s not there, not yet anyway.

“We don’t want to stop him from his development; definitely, we think he will improve further if he plays in the S.League. So we have told him that if any other S.League club wants to go for him, we will consider the offer.”

Tampines withdraw contract offer for Aiff

Tampines Rovers has been reported to have withdrawn their new 1-year contract to their skipper Aliff Shafaein.

This is a result of his arrest for drink-driving and driving while suspended after he was involved in a car crash.

It had also happen hours before he captained Tampines Rovers in the Singapore Cup final and that was a major disappointing point according to Stags manager Syed Faruk.

He was quoted that as the skipper of the team, Aliff was expected to be a role model for his team mates, especially for the younger ones, and to be out in the wee hours and breaking the laws before a major final was a bad example.

So the 28-year-old could not be forgiven by the club management and the club acted as they did.

It was a double blow as Syed Faruk admitted the Protectors were also looking at Aliff for the new season but have withdrawn from the race after the incident.

Still, the Stags manager hoped the midfielder can find a club willing to accommodate him for the season as every person deserve a chance.

Vietnam top striker lose battle to play in Suzuki Cup

Vietnamnet has reported Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto has admitted his top forward Le Cong Vinh has lost the battle to be fit for the Suzuki Cup.

The Vietnamese forward have been injured since August but had initially been expected to make the Suzuki Cup after his operation.

It is therefore disappointing news as Le Cong Vinh is an important member of the Vietnam football team setup with him getting the winning goal back in the 2008 Suzuki Cup Final to secure Vietnam first ever international trophy.

But it was not all bad news for Vietnam as Viet Thang has recovered from his injury in the VFF Cup game against Singapore.

Mendy linked with uniform teams

S-league top scorer Frederic Mendy have been linked with both uniform teams - SAFFC and Home United - for the upcoming season.

The Frenchman is leaving the Queentown club as the club is unable to match his salary expectation for the new season after the sensational maiden season he has make.

The 21-year-old have scored 21 goals in 32 league appearance to snatch the Top scorer Award from Aleksandar Duric who have won it for the last 3 seasons.

He is believed to seeking a salary of S$10k a month for the upcoming season.

Wilkinson join Thai club

SAFFC and Singapore midfielder John Wilkinson have joined Thai club Police United for the upcoming season.

He has been lured away by a two-year contract with a pay check of S$10k a month.

The Warriors admitted they cannot matched the offer for the 31-year-old as he was believed to be earning the higher bracket for local of S$8k a month already.

Wilkinson family will also be moving to Thailand to join him as he make Thailand his home for the next 2 years.

Home will lose their Korean contingent

Despite an impressive first season with Home United, the Korean contingent at the Bishan club is set to bid jagbyeol.

The club had confirmed the departure of Chun Jae Woon, Choi Chul Woo and Jun Woo Keun.

Former Korea Republic international Choi had joined Home at the beginning of the season, while Chun and Jun were recruited midway into the campaign.

While Chun is understood to be looking for a move to a top-flight club in East Asia, the curtains appear to have come down for Choi and Jun as far as their playing careers are concerned.

Choi turns 33 at the end of November, while Jun will be 34 in February.

“All our Korean players are going back to Korea,” Lee told S-league website.

“Two of them, Choi and Jun, told me they want to be coaches in Korea, and that is why they have decided to retire now. For our No.10 (Chun), he wants to play with another team in Korea or Japan.

“He is a good player, and he deserves the chance to play for a bigger team. Although I want to keep him for one more year, it is out of my hands and I respect his decision.

“I want to bring in another player from Korea at least, and I will rebuild the team. Then I will show everyone what Home United can do next year!”

The loss of Chun is an especially notable one, after the midfielder had starred for the Protectors since debuting for them on 8 June.

The 29-year-old had been frozen out at K-League outfit Jeju United due to a contractual dispute, but did not need long to fit in at his new club.

Alongside the Singaporean trio of Shahril Ishak, Shahdan Sulaiman and Shi Jiayi, Chun was part of an irrepressible attacking line that had launched Home into an unbeaten run right up to the final day of the season.

The departures of Shahdan and then Shahril meant that he could not end his time in Singapore with a winners’ medal, however, as Home had to settle for third place in the S.League after leading the table at various points of the campaign.

But Chun’s own quality, forged from a career in the K-League that had also seen him turn out for Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i, Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, made him a standout character, especially whenever he lined up for free kicks.

That earned him much praise from his coach Lee, who lamented his misfortune not to be able to hold on to the talent but admitted a move to a more lucrative league was fair reward for a class act like Chun.

“Jae Woon has played in the K-League, where players have a different level,” he noted.

“That’s why, after they win one game, they take bonuses of ten thousand, twenty thousand. Good players like Jae Woon can earn that kind of money, more than we can give him here, although I had hoped the club can afford to keep him.

“It is very difficult to take good players from the K-League for a long time, because they also want to go to places like Europe and Japan where they can get good money. If you look at big clubs everywhere, they pay the best money to keep the best players.

“But Jae Woon has made good use of his time here in Singapore. I wanted him to come here to keep training and keep getting match practice after some problems his agent had with his club in Korea, and now it is time for him to go out again and do what he wants.

SAFFC is releasing 3 of their 5 foreigners

SAFFC is releasing 3 of their 5 foreigners with Park Tae Won retiring as one of them.

The other 2 foreigners are Choa Chu Kang Uruguayan striker Federico Martinez  and Croatian centreback Ivan Lovric.

Their replacement have already been lined up with Young Lions 19-year-old Serbian midfielder Luka Savic and Balestier Khalsa skipper Daniel Hammond both touted.

The Choa Chu Kang club have also been reported to be interested in an Argentinian forward who had attended the FAS conducted trial.

Ismail Yunos is joining Bulls

Home United have released Singapore defender Ismail Yunos and the former Protector have wasted no time in finding a new club.

The 24-year-old is joining Gombak United in the 2011 season and is surely looking for a fresh start.

He has been hit by long-term injuries in his two years with the Bishan club and as a result, he has only make a combined of only 13 appearances for his former employer.

It has derailed his footballing career after the former youth international was expected to make the grade to the senior level with his release from the Young Lions.
