El-Masri could leave Home

Home United has admitted Canadian winger Sherif El-Masri may be leaving the club.

The 20-year-old believed he has done well enough to be promoted to the S-league as he is the only Asia-based player to have received a call-up to his country’s Olympic training squad and has bagged 13 goals in the Prime League, making him the club’s second-highest goalscorer behind Sufian Anuar.

Not so, according to Protectors general manager S. Mahalingam, who said that there are no plans to promote him into the senior setup as head coach Lee believed the Canadian is not the finished article and due to the fact foreigners slot are limited, he is not good enough.

“After one year here, Sherif wants to play more in the S-League, not the Prime League,” S. Mahalingam revealed.

“But looking at the foreign players we have and the ones we want to get, his chances for our S.League team are limited. Comparing him to our higher-level players, like the three Koreans, our head coach thinks he’s not there, not yet anyway.

“We don’t want to stop him from his development; definitely, we think he will improve further if he plays in the S.League. So we have told him that if any other S.League club wants to go for him, we will consider the offer.”
