Jagaurs are back in the Final after 15 years

Tanjong Pagar United make their first Singapore Cup Final in 15 years after they defeated Philippines side Global FC 4-3 overall.

In the first leg, played at Queenstown, it only took the Philippine side just seven minutes to open the scoring when Misagh Bahadoran fired home Aaron Altiche’s fine cross at the far post, but Tanjong Pagar equalised on the half-hour mark when Ismael Benahmed applied the finishing touches to a wonderfully-worked set-piece routine.

The hosts then edged ahead in the 49th minute when Monsef Zerka was left with an easy tap-in after Roland Dely Sadia had flapped at a cross, but 20 minutes from time, Aurelien Herisson made a similar mistake at the other end to allow Altiche to slot home the equaliser.

Thus there was no separating them in the first leg and the outcome of the second leg will prove crucial and it was so.

Monsef Zerka got the Jaguars off to a dream start when he netted with a close-range header in the third minute, before netting a second from the spot two minutes before the hour mark.

The Morocco international did however score an own-goal in the 71st minute to hand the Philippine giants a lifeline, but Tanjong Pagar did enough in the end to hold on and book their place in the final, where they will meet Home United.
